Dynamics 365 and AppSource have just been launched in the company.
It seems like yesterday when we talked about this arrival,
and it seems that suddenly everything makes sense and absolute coherence.
Doesn’t this image sound familiar to anyone?
In fact, it is much more than a statement of
intentions.
Just a couple of months ago, we were talking Project
“Madeira”, a new ERP based on NAV 2017 (hence the code name). Already
I commented in my post that the only way to develop this new product
it would be finished “Extensions”.
Yes, yes… extensions… of course I also mentioned the current limitations
They will become history in a matter of months. Again, it’s another proof that the future
of vertical/horizontal developments will go through an “app store”
(now we will talk about AppSource, and everyone will draw their own conclusions :-)).
And what is Dynamics 365?
We could say that it is a “mega-cocktail” of productivity
Business. It will obviously be a subscription product and we will have it integrated
our ERP (based on Project Madeira), online CRM, Office 365, … and for
obviously with other additional features, such as BI (thanks to PowerBI),
forecasts (with Cortana Intelligence), workflows and much more.
What we intend to do is make a qualitative leap in
companies, integrating all key business processes in one place,
from finances to customer services. And of course, ours
We will have our office on any device, that is, always open.
It will also have offline functionality, it won’t be essential to make everything work
time online.
As I mentioned, the native incorporation of “Cortana
Intelligence” and “PowerBI” will provide a number of incredibly interesting features:
- Example: thanks to Cortana Intelligence our
the sales team will receive real-time recommendations to make a sale
crossed to our customers. Or, for example, we could connect to data
of the IoT within Dynamics 365 Service Management and propose actions
preventive measures to our technicians thanks to the connection of the monitoring of the
resources and anomaly detection, so they can act in advance
accidents occur, avoiding costly customer service issues.
It will connect a deep integration between Dynamics 365 and Office 365
Structured workflow of business applications with non-work
structured collaboration and productivity.
- For example, a seller receives a
email and you can respond directly to the office with a quote
which is created based on information from financial and sales applications,
store it again in the correct application, with its price, discounts, etc.
All this without the user having to leave Outlook.
Common data model and application platform
extensible activity:
This is the premise and foundation of Dynamics apps
365. Basically the concept is to have a shared data model with Office
365, with the idea of simplifying data management and integration between
applications and business processes.
The goal is to enable development for both “users
advanced” (without touching a single line of code), thanks to PowerApps, PowerBI and
Microsoft Flow, as well as professional developers (using Azure
platform services) a consistent business platform that they can use
to compose new applications and extend and modify them easily
existing.
Of course we will also have more connectors,
with which we can integrate with other Microsoft and other applications.
third parties, including here custom APIs and on-premise systems (e.g.
which we have locally and not in the cloud).
Microsoft AppSource: Find the right app for
your business
With Dynamics 365
appears in societyAppSource”.
AppSource will be our “store” of apps for Dynamics 365, where we will find
published general applications, others specific for each sector
business, add-ons, content packs and of course also
all in SaaS (pay per use) mode.
More than 200 apps are already available for launch,
add-ons and content packs, including some unique and very specific apps,
AS “See retail
Execution” from AFS and some others.
When will it be available?
This fall, according to Microsoft.
Some conclusions and reflections:
The truth is that we had been talking about this event ever since
a long time ago, although I was honestly surprised by the “moment”.
I thought this move would happen next year, after the release
of the Madeira Project, obviously I say this more for the criticism that will arise from it
partners than for the adequacy of deadlines (which is more than clear
The sooner the better… hmmm… why does Windows Mobile always come to mind when I say this? :-OR).
Conceptually it seems like a “bomb” to me, especially in towns
like ours, where almost all companies are micro-SMEs, but
Naturally then doubts arise such as: the training will be in Spanish and
quality?… that is, in Spain there were other times when it was more difficult to find it
a NAV manual in Spanish compared to a person with a permanent job.
In the end, as always, time will tell. The truth is that
I sincerely believe that as a business strategy it is the right thing to do, and I am sure of it
In one way or another, the partners who have decided to invest in the “programs
Cloud”, etc. they will be compensated, if only because they already start from a
inertia towards changing their business models.
I hope you enjoyed it and I trust you will share yours
comments and opinions about it.
Miguel Llorça.
